Nicolas Apps
Associate Deputy Director, External Affairs Director of Special Programming and Events, MoMA, USA
Nicholas Apps is the Associate Deputy Director of External Affairs and the Director of Special Programming and Events and has worked at The Museum of Modern Art since its re-opening in 2004. Previously Nicholas was the Director for Special Events at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Nicholas and his team are responsible for 34% of all External Affairs fundraising. Since MoMA's re-opening, Nicholas’s team has raised over $64 million dollars through a variety of channels including corporate sponsorship and underwriting, corporate entertaining and the museum’s benefits, including the Party in the Garden, the Film Benefit and the David Rockefeller Luncheon.
Hugo Barreto
Secretary General, Fundação Roberto Marinho, Brazil
Hugo Barreto has been the Secretary General of Fundação Roberto Marinho (FRM) since 2001. He has wide experience in educational television and was responsible for the creation of Globo Ciência (Globo Science) and Globo Ecologia (Globo Ecology), pioneer educational TV programmes. He is responsible for the Telecurso, a programme which has placed ‘tele-rooms’ throughout the country and has enabled approximately 1.5 million people to complete their basic education. Hugo is also responsible for the Futura Channel - The Channel of Knowledge, an educational channel entirely supported by private corporations, watched by more than 35 million Brazilians. Under his leadership FRM has implemented the most visited museums in Brazil – the Museum of the Portuguese Language and the Museum of Football, both in Sao Paulo. He currently leads the FRM team in charge of developing and implementing three new museums in Rio de Janeiro: the Museum of Image and Sound, the Museum of Art of Rio and the Museum of Tomorrow. The latter two will be located in Rio’s port area and will contribute to its revitalisation.
Patricia Bueno Delgado
PhD student: Centre of Cultural Policy & Management, City University, London
Originally from Mexico, Patricia is a PhD student at City University London. Her research is about learning, dialogue and institutional practice in Mexican museums. She has an undergraduate in Economics (CIDE, Mexico City, 2002) and a postgraduate in Visual Culture (University of Westminster, London, 2007). She was awarded scholarships to study in Argentina (2001) and London (2006-2007 and 2008-2012). She has presented international conference papers in Madrid and Liverpool (2011), Istanbul (2010), Cardiff (2009) and London (2008). She has also participated in research projects and publications for the International Journal of the Inclusive Museum (2011), Kogan Page (2008), Mexican Arts Council (2005), and UBS (2003).
Allegra Burnette
Creative Director of Digital Media, MoMA, USA
Allegra Burnette is the Creative Director of Digital Media at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, overseeing the design and production for the museum's website, MoMA.org, as well as mobile devices, interpretive kiosks and digital displays. Prior to working at MoMA, Allegra created and ran a media department at the renowned museum exhibition design firm Ralph Appelbaum Associates. She is included in the book, Mobile Apps for Museums: The AAM Guide to Planning and Strategy, teaches in the online graduate program for Museum Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and serves on the board of the Museum Computer Network.
Deena Chalabi
Founding Head of Strategy for Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Qatar
An independent writer, curator and cultural strategist, Deena Chalabi was the founding Head of Strategy for Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art from 2009 to 2012. Deena oversaw the museum’s branding, strategic development and communications, and co-curated the inaugural exhibition of Mathaf's permanent collection of modern art from the Arab world. She also curated Interference, a collaborative event about art and social change in the Arab world with the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London in July 2011. Deena received her BA in Social Studies from Harvard University and her Masters from the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley.
Diana Campbell
Director and Chief Curator of the Creative India Foundation
Diana Campbell is the Director and Chief Curator of the Creative India Foundation, a private foundation created in 2010. Creative India is committed to advancing Indian Contemporary Sculpture and is building an International Sculpture Park in Hyderabad. Creative India aims to place Indian public sculptures in 100 cities around the world. Diana is a Princeton graduate. Prior to moving to India she worked at Sotheby’s and the Neue Galerie in New York. Diana is a contributor to Condé Nast publications and consults for some of the top private international collections on their Indian acquisitions. She recently curated public art projects for the India Art Fair and is also curating Indian sculptures for the SH Contemporary Fair in Shanghai.
Kathrine Daniloff

Kathrine Daniloff has been Head of Communications at Norsk Teknisk Museum for six years. Her prior communications experience goes back 16 years. She has worked in small, medium and large companies as Head of Communications and other roles. Educated at the University of Oslo as a sociologist, Kathrine Daniloff also holds a Master of Management degree from the Norwegian School of Business.
Christine De Weerdt

Christine De Weerdt is director of STAM – Ghent City Museum. She was communications coordinator for the Cultural Heritage Unit in Ghent, from 2000 – 2010. She worked as general coordinator of the Charles V year of culture from 1997 to 2000. Previously, she worked as a freelance coordinator for exhibitions such as the Time Festival in Ghent, the Flanders Tourist Office and Klein Barnum. She was Business Manager at Speelteater Ghent (1986-1992) and a member of staff in the Architecture Section of 'Antwerp 93 – Cultural Capital of Europe'. She studied Art History at the University of Leuven.
Camelia Esmaili

Camelia Esmaili is the founder and managing director of l’Atelier Camelia, an independent curatorial and creative agency. In 2007 she founded her company in Paris before relocating permanently to the Middle East. Particularly focused on art from the MENASA region, l’Atelier Camelia provides strategic art advisory and multidisciplinary cultural project management. Since 2008, the agency has established offices in Dubai and Singapore and currently works with a range of clients that include governments, museums, cultural foundations and leading corporations across Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia. In 2012, Camelia launched L’Atech, a subsidiary of l’Atelier Camelia based in San Francisco.Camelia grew up in Paris where she studied art, design, fashion and communication and engaged in courses and workshops in luxury brand management and product design at the University of the Arts London. She trained with pioneering Parisian firms D2S Communication and MO Communication before curating various exhibitions in alternative spaces in Paris and then working with acclaimed critic, collector and artist Fereydoun Ave to launch his gallery XVB in Dubai.
Jonathan Finkelstein

Jonathan Finkelstein is founder and executive producer of LearningTimes. He is also the director of the BadgeStack Project, the only open source system designed for badge-empowered learning and community-building, and the first to issue Mozilla Open Badges. Finkelstein is author of Learning in Real Time (Wiley), contributing author to The Digital Museum, board member of the AAM Media & Technology Committee, and host of thousands of pioneering online events for museum, library, association, and education professionals. The son of two New York City public school teachers, Finkelstein is a certified synchronous trainer and graduated with honors from Harvard University.
Kimberly French

Kimberly French recently joined the National Museum of Qatar as Deputy Director of External Affairs. Kim was with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where she was Deputy Director of Communications, responsible for delivering a consistent message to drive attendance and revenue through all visitor-facing departments including marketing, public relations, creative services, membership, visitor services, new media, and database applications. Prior to working at the MFA Kim held various marketing roles at American Express and Fidelity Investments. Her positions included Head of Marketing for the UK based in London, Executive Director of European Marketing based in Luxemburg and Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications for Retirement Assets in Boston. Kim has a Masters in Business from the University of Minnesota and an undergraduate degree in International Relations from Macalester College.
Jo Hargreaves
Director, Morris Hargreaves McIntyre, UK
Morris Hargreaves McIntyre is an award-winning creative consultancy based in the UK and New Zealand. They undertake more museum and gallery research worldwide than anyone else but are much more than just a research agency. With a focus on strategic outcomes, they provide deep insight into what drives organisational and audience development. Jo works with cultural organisations to help them become immersed in the needs, motivations, attitudes and behaviour of their audience so they can better meet their artistic aims and evaluate their impact. Jo has a degree in Social & Environmental Studies, an MSc in Social Research and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Lucimara Letelier
Assistant Director Arts, British Council, Rio de Janeiro
Lucimara is the Assistant Director Arts for the British Council Brazil and works on several UK-Brazil exchange initiatives, including a capacity building program that will engage museums, arts managers and universities from both countries. Lucimara has over 13 years of experience with arts organisations in development, marketing and communications. She founded Artefoco, a consultancy that establishes development departments in Brazilian arts organisations. Previously Lucinamara has worked at the Guggenheim Museum, Boston's Children’s Museum, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Caixa Cultural, Brazil Arts Bienal, ActionAid. She is a committee member at International Society for the Performing Arts and holds a Master in Arts Administration (Boston University).
Joanna Mackle
Director of Public Engagement, The British Museum, UK
Joanna's role is to manage the relationship between The British Museum and its many publics. With the Directors, she sets the Museum’s direction in matters of public policy and agrees the strategy for the Museum’s future exhibitions and public programme, in the UK and worldwide. She works to ensure that the intellectual content, tone and balance of the programme matches the Museum’s strategy. Joanna directs the Museum’s departments of Communications, Exhibitions, Learning and Audience and Marketing to ensure coordination and coherence of all activities in which the public can engage. She also leads on digital and broadcast strategies which includes the major landmark BBC series A History of the World In 100 Objects. Previously Joanna was Publishing Director for the leading independent literary publisher Faber and Faber.
Sarah Maréchal
Communications Manager, STAM - Ghent City Museum
Having worked as coordinator of communications for the Flemish Art Collection (a partnership between three fine art museums) in 2002-2004 and marketing manager at the Museums of Bruges (an umbrella organisation for 16 municipal museums) in 2004-2007, Sarah Maréchal longed for just one museum to communicate for and identify with. She found it in STAM in 2007. What was most exciting was that it was not yet open (it opened in 2010) and many choices still had to be made. Sarah is fluent in Dutch, English and French and understands Spanish perfectly. She holds a degree of Communications (Ghent University) and Cultural Management (Antwerp University).
Kim Mitchell
Chief Communications Officer, MoMA, USA
Kim Mitchell is the Chief Communications Officer at The Museum of Modern Art, where she oversees marketing, public relations, and graphic design. She also leads the museum’s initiatives in brand identity, reputation and issues management, promotions and partnerships, social media, and market research. Previously, Kim was Director of Marketing and Communications at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York. She began her career in advertising as an art director and copywriter. Kim holds a Master of Science degree in Communications Management from the Newhouse School, Syracuse University, and a BFA in Photography from Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
Janet O’Donoghue

Janet O’Donoghue is Director of Creative Services, Web, and New Media at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She began her career at the MFA as a graphic designer and is now responsible for development, design, and production of materials that express the MFA’s identity in print and digital formats. Janet manages a team of graphic and interactive designers, writers, editors, web developers, and project managers. Janet is a member of the AIGA. She has a BA in Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and studied graphic design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Stephanie Norby is Executive Director of the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies, which provides leadership in education at the Smithsonian and produces a variety of programs, services, and resources for the education and museum communities. The Center studies education at the Institution and builds consensus on standards for strengthening its educational programs, publications, and websites. The Center also runs the very popular SmithsonianEducation.org website.
Jackson Pellow

At the Australian National Maritime Museum, Jackson Pellow oversees the campaign strategy and rollout of major travelling and in-house exhibitions. Previously Jackson worked in key marketing roles at the Australian Film Commission, Screen Australia and documentary production and distribution company Film Australia. He has spoken at international conferences including the Australian International Documentary Conference (Adelaide), Shop the Doc (Sydney & Melbourne), Screen Producers Association Conference (Sydney) and MipDoc, MipTV and MipCom conferences (Cannes, France). An expert in the digital delivery of marketing campaigns, Jackson project managed the 2011 national initiative Map My Summer with Google, re-launched Screen Australia’s YouTube Channel and developed microsites and social media initiatives for the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Renata Salles
Projects and Fundraising Director at Instituto Inhotim
Renata Salles is Projects and Fundraising Director at Instituto Inhotim, Brazil, and has been working in fundraising for the last eight years. In 2001 Renata started working for the events team at CIE Brasil, progressing to the position of manager. Latin America's largest live entertainment company, CIE was responsible for bringing cultural events and venues to Brazil such as Broadway Shows, rock stadiums concerts and sports events. In 2006 she moved to the fundraising department of CIE, managing corporate accounts and devising tailored solutions specific to clients' marketing strategies, developing briefs together with marketing departments. In 2008 Renata joined the European GL Events Group as Commercial Director and Fundraising for HSBC Arena at Rio de Janeiro. She was responsible for creating, developing and commercialising partnerships for the Arena and group GL in Brazil, as well as implementing the naming rights of HSBC Arena.
Marc Sands

Marc Sands joined Tate in the post of Director of Audiences and Media in May 2010. Marc is responsible for developing the brand across online, broadcast and social media to strengthen Tate's relationships with audiences and build social networks for the organisation. He leads the teams behind TATE ETC. magazine and the online video magazine TateShots, as well as press, public relations, marketing, membership and ticket sales. Marc was previously on the board at Guardian News & Media as Marketing Director of The Guardian, The Observer and their websites (2000 – 2010). Prior to joining The Guardian, Marc worked for LWT/Granada Television, and then became a founding employee of British Digital Broadcasting - which later to become ONdigital, the Digital Terrestrial consortium between Carlton and Granada. Marc's early career was spent working in the advertising industry in both New York and London, starting at DMB&B and ending at HHCL and Partners. Marc's first degree was at Cambridge which was immediately followed by an MBA.

Manager of Arts and Business Services at Arts & Business Council of New York, Fran Smyth has worked in both the nonprofit and commercial sectors for five years. She has run the Business Volunteers For The Arts program for the same period of time. Fran Smyth has volunteered with the Borough of Manhattan Community College, CSC Repertory where she served as Board Chair for several years, 14th Street B.I.D where as a Board and Executive Committee member, Cooper-Hewitt Museum Library, and Inside Broadway where she chaired the Fund-Raising Committee. Loic Tallon is Director of Pocket-Proof, an independent design consultancy specialised in the planning, design and development of mobile experiences for cultural institutions. Ever mobile, Loïc has delivered projects for institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (USA), Whitney Museum of American Art (USA), Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton (France), National Museum of Qatar (Qatar), Louvre Abu Dhabi (UAE), National Museum of Wales (UK) & National Museum of Scotland (UK). Loic is leading the foremost research survey in this field, tracking trends in museum mobile across 500+ international cultural institutions. He co-produces the bi-annual Museums Mobile Online conferences, which are followed by a community of 1,800+ museum professionals. In 2008 he co-edited Digital Technologies and the Museum Experience: Handheld Guides and Other Media (Alta Mira Press, US).
Sue Underwood
Director, Children's Museum at Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar
Sue Underwood is currently developing a major new family museum for Qatar Museums Authority. Prior to moving to the Middle East Sue had worked at a number of museums and other cultural organisations in the UK. She left the UK in 2005 to take up a position at Sharjah Museums Department, UAE, before moving to Qatar museums Authority in 2009. As part of the planned programme for developing the new museum in Qatar, Sue is overseeing extensive Future Audience Research. The results of both researching and developing the future audience has helped inform the content, exhibition design and architectural brief for the new museum.
Denise Vogelsang

Denise Vogelsang is the Head of Marketing at the National Portrait Gallery, London. She has developed and delivered a series of innovative and impactful marketing campaigns which have successfully increased visitor numbers and attracted new audiences. Denise has worked in marketing in the heritage, museum and gallery sector for over 13 years including roles at the Tower of London (Historic Royal Palaces) and the Imperial War Museum.
Barbara Wiench

Previously she worked as Marketing Officer at the museum (2007-8), and marketing volunteer (2006-7). Prior to working at the Museum Kunstpalast Barbara gained marketing experience whilst working at various advertising agencies. Barbara has a degree in Anglo-American studies, social policy and economics, public law and business studies from Ruhr University in Bochum. Since 2004 she has been studying for doctorate in the Faculty of Philology, Ruhr University.
Wendy Woon
Edward John Noble Deputy Director for Education, MoMA, New York, USA
Wendy Woon is The Edward John Noble Deputy Director for Education at The Museum of Modern Art. Trained as an artist, she has worked in wide range of museums in both Canada and the United States including a contemporary art museum, archeology and natural history museum, regional art museum and a children’s museum. Wendy comes to museums naturally, being born and raised in Niagara Falls, Canada, a place with a wax museum on every corner. At its best Wendy considers education to be a form of socially engaged art practice. She is passionate about the disruptive change currently in play as a result of the rapidly evolving digital landscape, and optimistic about the creative possibilities for a revolution in learning in museums and elsewhere.
Paola Zanzo

Paola Zanzo joined MoMA in 2005 and is the Associate Director of Special Programming and Events. She and her team produce four benefit events with a net profit of $8 million annually. Additionally, she manages $2million worth of revenue in corporate and non-profit entertaining at MoMA, as well as up to eight exhibition openings annually. Previously she was the Director of Special Events for The Central Park Conservancy. Paola has lived in New York City since 1995, and currently lives on the Lower East Side with her husband and two children but proudly refers to her colleagues at MoMA as her second family.
