Anna Somers Cocks

Anna Somers Cocks is British, but born in Rome. After studying at Oxford University and the Courtauld Institute, she became a curator at the Victoria & Albert Museum from 1973 to 1987. From 1987 to 1990, she was editor in chief of Apollo magazine, leaving to start The Art Newspaper in October of that year. In 2003 she joined the board of its Turin-based parent company, Umberto Allemandi e C, and shuttles between London and Turin. Anna is chairman of the Venice in Peril Fund, a Governor of the Courtauld Institute(University of London), a trustee of the Gilbert Collection, a member of the Council of the Sotheby’s Institute and a trustee of the Cass Sculpture Foundation. In 2011 she was awarded the OBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her services to the art. She has written for The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, The Times, Apollo Magazine, the Burlington Magazine, The Annual Register, The New Statesman, Shawati, and her articles appear frequently in The Art Newspaper.
