Nouveau Musée National de Monaco launches Villa Paloma
Following the launch of exhibition space Villa Sauber, the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) is now opening Villa Paloma, a new space dedicated to the notion of territory in art.
Internationally acclaimed German artist Thomas Demand will be curating the inaugral exhibition at the Villa Paloma. Entitled La carte d' après Nature, the show is named after surrealist painter René Magritte's short-lived magazine which consisted of a simple postcard.
Thomas Demand has brought togther works by artists concerned with nature and its representation. His final selection includes pieces by Luigi Ghirri, Tacita Dean and Rodney Graham as well as recent works by Demand himself. The exhibition was made possible with the support of the René Magritte Foundation, Brussels.
By proposing two exhibitions a year in each venue, the NMNM aims to promote Monaco’s artistic heritage and develop the Principality’s contemporary art scene. Whilst the Villa Paloma will focus on Art and Territory, the Villa Sauber will present shows related to Art and Performance.
La carte d' après Nature runs from 18 September until 22 February 2011.
