  • Special exhibition 14 April – 28 May, ‘Heroes and Myth’ at Mougins’ Espace Culturel, featuring key works from the museum, on display for the first time

The Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins opened its doors to the public last year, winning Apollo magazine’s Museum Opening of the Year 2011. Set in the old village of Mougins near Nice, it is an ideal place for international visitors to enjoy art in the picturesque French Provencal landscape.

MACM is unique in its presentation of ancient, neoclassical, modern and contemporary art. It houses the world’s largest private collection of Graeco-Roman arms and armour. Visitors are invited to admire masterpieces from the Classical world (Roman, Greek and Egyptian) alongside star works by modern and contemporary artists including Picasso, Warhol, Marc Quinn

The Mougins Tourist Office says: “The museum adds real value to not only the village, but the entire region. This incredibly rich collection has become a cultural collection.”

Exhibition 14 April – 28 May : Heroes and Myth, Espace Culturel, Vieux Village de Mougins

Heroes and mythology were an important part of Greek and Roman society. The exhibition paints a picture of ancient myth in Roman mosaics and neoclassical, modern and contemporary art from the Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins displayed for the first time. The splendid works featured are the drawings and paintings of Cézanne, Picasso, Pinelli, Renoir, Rubens and the sculpture of Arman, Quinn and Sosno. These tell the story of how ancient people saw their world and how artists have interpreted it from the Renaissance to the present day. All the works are being loaned from the museum collection for this special exhibition.
