Jean Paul Gaultier comes to Madrid
We are pleased to announce the European premier of a major Jean Paul Gaultier retrospective that has already taken the US and Canada by storm. The exhibition will run from 6 October 2012 – 6 January 2013 at Fundación Mapfre, Madrid.
Organised by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier and Fundación Mapfre, this is the first international retrospective dedicated to this iconic French designer.
Gaultier's collaborations with the Spanish film, fashion and dance industries - and with Pedro Almodóvar in particular - are well documented in this exhibition. The Spanish film director has loaned wardrobe items and sketches from The Skin I Live In, Bad Education and Kika that will only appear in the Madrid production.
A selection of haute couture designs, films, video clips, excerpts from fashion shows and interviews, preliminary designs, and images by some of the leading fashion photographers will illustrate Gaultier’s daring, highly original approach.
The exhibition kicked off in June 2011 in Montreal, after which it travelled to the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and the de Young Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. Following its stint in Madrid, the show will journey to the Kunsthal Rotterdam in the Netherlands (February-May 2013), and the Arkitekturmuseet in Stockholm (June-September 2013).
