Eugène Atget, Paris 1898-1924

Fundación Mapfre, Madrid is presenting the work of pioneering French photographer Eugène Atget in the Spanish capital for the first time.

Eugène Atget (1857 - 1927) was a unique master whose work made a crucial contribution to the history of photography.

The exhibition's curators looked at more than 4,000 photographs by Atget, from which they selected 228. Taken between 1898 and 1924, the photographs offer a fascinating depiction of Paris and its outskirts. Overall, the show offers a clear insight into the Atget’s artistic progression. The works have been loaned by the Musée Carnavalet in Paris, the George Eastmann House in Rochester and the Fundación Mapfre’s own collections.
